Tour style – Wildlife & Nature

5 days

Short on time but big on adventure? This five day tour will bring you face-to-face with incredible wildlife and landscapes! Traipse through the weird and wonderful plants of Kinabalu National Park, embark on a wildlife safari on the Kinabatangan River, past proboscis monkeys, orangutans and rare Boreno Pygmy elephants, and spend a day lounging on beautiful Coral Island. There won’t be a dull second – you’ll love every minute!
  • Day 1 Kota Kinabalu

You’ll be met by your guide upon arrival at Kota Kinabalu and will be transferred to your hotel – no stress included. The rest of the day is free for you to get settled in and explore the beautiful tropical island on your own. Long sandy beaches, virgin coral reefs, and tropical rainforests – what’s not to love?

  • Day 2 Kinabalu Park

Be ready to leave the hotel at 8.30am for a two hour drive to Kinabalu Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Home to Mount Kinabalu, the highest mountain between the Himalayas and New Guinea, the scenery as you drive through the Crocker Range to the Park Head Quarters is spectacular! Stop off at local fruit and handicraft stalls en route then spend the rest of the day trekking along lush forest trails while learning all about the areas. After a busy day, check into your accommodation in the late afternoon and tuck into a delicious meal for dinner.

  • Day 3 Sukau

After breakfast, drive five hours through the towns of Ranau and Telupid to Sukau to your accommodation – situated along the banks of the Kinabatangan River and surrounded by riverine forest, it’s a pretty beautiful place to stay. In the afternoon, take a scenic boat ride along the river through forests home to an amazing array of wildlife – Proboscis monkeys, Long Tail and Pig tail Macaques, Hornbills and even Orangutans and the Borneo Pygmy elephant!

  • Day 4 Sepilok / Kota Kinabalu

Make your way to Sandakan for a trip to the Orangutan Sanctuary at Sepilok – these orphaned primates are being rehabilitated back into the wild but you’ll mostly just want to take one home. Then you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Kota Kinabalu where you’ll have the rest of the day to do as you wish.

  • Day 5 Coral Island / Kota Kinabalu

Check out of your hotel and catch the boat to one of the coral islands within the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park. A day of swimming, snorkelling and relaxing on the beach – what better way is there to spend your last day in Borneo? You’ll return to the mainland in the early afternoon and will be transferred to Kota Kinabalu airport for your flight. Parting really will be light on the sweet, heavy on the sorrow.
