With a population of 135 million crammed into just under 140,000 sq. kilometres, you’d think there’d be no room on Java left for adventuring. Densely populated as it is, this amazing swath of Indonesia has loads of unexplored corners just waiting for travellers looking for something a little different. From Jakarta, you’ll venture to the curiously European-like city of Bandung (the “Paris of Java”) en route to Yogyakarta, home to the island’s monstrous volcanoes. Later, you’ll spend two days in Dutch colonial Batu before winding up on the gorgeous Balinese beaches of Sanur. (Hey, if you can’t beat the crowd, join it!)
  • Day 1 Jakarta

    Arrive at any time. There will be a welcome meeting around 6pm to meet your CEO and fellow travellers. After, head out for an optional dinner with group.

  • Day 2 Bandung (1B)

    In the morning enjoy a guided city tour of Jakarta. Visit the former Batavia area, where Jakarta began, before it grew to its current size. You’ll see remnants of the colonial past and visit the Sunda Kelapa Harbour. in the afternoon depart for Bandung. Opt for a performance by the traditional angklung orchestra. The performance consists of children creating resonating melodies by the gentle shaking of bamboo instruments, a truly unique experience.

  • Days 3-4 Yogyakarta (2B, 1L)

    Morning train to Yogyakarta, with beautiful scenery along the way. In the evening, opt to take in a dance performance by the Ramayana Ballet. On Day 4, drive to Candirejo, a village near Borobudur. Here, experience the reality of a local village. Take a tour by horsecart through the village and see native customs, traditions and the agricultural system. Enjoy an included local lunch in the village. Later, visit the largest Buddhist sanctuary in the world, the Borobudur (1.5 hrs from Yogyakarta).

  • Day 5 Solo (1B)

    Drive to Solo, the traditional capital of the old Javanese Kingdom. En route, visit the Prambanan temple complex, a lavish example of ancient architecture. In the afternoon, opt for a bike tour around the region (3-4 hrs).

  • Days 6-7 Batu (2B)

    Continue the journey across the agricultural heartland of Java to Batu, a large hill resort on the lower reaches of Gunung Arjuna, surrounded by volcano peaks. On Day 7, visit Mt Bromo (4 hr excursion), then enjoy a free afternoon with options to visit nearby waterfalls or wander around the village.

  • Day 8 Malang/Sanur (1B)

    In the morning, drive from Batu to Malang for a short flight to Sanur. Enjoy the final night with any group members departing the next morning.
