Nevada. Home to Sin City, the Hoover Dam, screaming armadillos (don’t ask) and you guessed it… ski resorts?! Granted, not the first thing you think of when you think “Nevada”. But this desert state has some of the freshest powder and gnarliest slopes around. Here are a few of our favorites.

1. Heavenly Mountain Resort

Where?

Eldorado National Forest, South Lake Tahoe, Nevada-California border

Why?

Boasting panoramic views of Lake Tahoe’s sapphire waters and high nevada desert. Heavenly Mountain Resort is one of the largest ski resorts in North America. With a massive 3,500ft vertical drop, over 4,800 acres of fresh snow and wild après ski parties hosted at Lake Tahoe hotel, this is a skier’s/snowboarder’s idea of (obvious pun alert) …heaven!

2. Diamond Peak

Where?

Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, North Lake Tahoe, Nevada

Why?

Diamond Peak Ski Resort is a community-owned resort, showcasing breath taking views of Lake Tahoe without the crowds. This resort has over 50 years of experience, 30 runs, open glades and tree skiing, and is Tahoe’s best value ski resort by far. They’re also pretty environmentally friendly, recycling all over the place, running shuttle pickups, rechargeable vehicle stations and so much more! What a gem.

3. Mount Rose

A post shared by Mt. Rose (@mtroseskitahoe) on Mar 14, 2017 at 7:51am PDT

Where?

Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Reno, Nevada

Why?

Firstly, they’ve received over 7,000 inches of snow this season. Secondly, they’re about to host the annual “Pink Fest“. Not sure what it is? Well, hundreds of women take to the slopes, dressed in pink in order to raise as much money as they can for “Moms on the Run” (a charity supporting women in North Nevada with cancer). This is just one of the many worthwhile causes Mount Rose supports on its slopes.

4. Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort

A post shared by Noah Ray (@downandderby) on Jan 10, 2016 at 8:05pm PST

Where?

Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Las Vegas, Nevada (about 45mins from the Strip)

Why?

Also known as Lee Canyon Skiing and a stone’s throw from Sin City, Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort makes for a cool (literally) break away from casinos. Visit a different kind of “Strip” one that includes table top jumps and a variety of different rails. After burning all those calories and before your night of debauchery, head to Big Horn Grill or Bristlecone Bar for mac ‘n’ cheese and a beer.

Well who’d have thought it? Nevada and skiing. This state is full of surprises.
