Give back and learn more about sea turtle conservation in beautiful Tortuguero (on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica). This project is a must for nature lovers looking to make a real difference in conservation and protection of sea turtles.
About this Project: Located in Tortuguero on the coast of Costa Rica, the Caribbean Sea Turtle Conservation project studies turtles nesting on unprotected beaches. The globally endangered green, leatherback, hawksbill and loggerhead sea turtles come ashore to nest on beaches accessible from the station.
Volunteers will take part in night patrols and will assist in tagging and data collection. There are no roads in the area, and visitors to Caño Palma arrive by boat via a network of rivers and canals.
A day in the life of a volunteer:
•Assist with the biological monitoring program
•Maintain the project’s facilities, yards and trails
•Share in preparing meals and daily chores
•Assist visiting researchers with data collection
•Experience life in Tortuguero, where rivers meet the sea

    Assist with the marine turtle monitoring program and data collection, yard and trail maintenance, preparing meals and washing dishes, and experience life on the edge of Tortuguero National Park. You’ll assist visiting researchers and also help around the project with day-to-day tasks.
