Day 2-14 Tortuguero (13B,12L,13D)
Assist with the marine turtle monitoring program and data collection, yard and trail maintenance, preparing meals and washing dishes, and experience life on the edge of Tortuguero National Park. You’ll assist visiting researchers and also help around the project with day-to-day tasks.
Located in Tortuguero on the coast of Costa Rica, the Caribbean Sea Turtle Conservation project studies turtles nesting on unprotected beaches. The globally endangered green, leatherback, hawksbill and loggerhead sea turtles come ashore to nest on beaches accessible from the station. Volunteers will take part
in night patrols and will assist in tagging and data collection. There are no roads in the area, and visitors to Caño Palma arrive by boat via a network of rivers and canals. In your free time, you can opt to go into the town of Tortuguero, hike nature trails, or relax at the project. -
