Tour style – Learn & Volunteer

28 days

You will get a few days of orientation about Thai culture and sightseeing before jumping into a true adventure by spending time in a remote village in the north of Thailand. Learn to make your skills be beneficial to the hill-tribe children in the village, share your experience with other NGOs and enjoy exploring the many beautiful sights in the area.
  • Day 1

Arrival airport transfer to hotel and the rest of the day at leisure.

  • Day 2

Today is a tour on foot. The aim is to ensure that you see as much as possible of the everyday life of Bangkok and its people; and what better way to do that than to combine your walk with as many different modes of public transport as possible. Stops on the tour will normally include some interesting temples, a flower market and Little India or Chinatown.
After returning to hotel and checking out there will be a group meeting for project orientation. You will learn about Thailand in general, cultural differences, the school, and village and discuss how your skills can benefit the community. Depart Bangkok in the evening to Chiang Mai by second-class overnight train with air-conditioned sleeping berths.

  • Day 3

There is no better way to see this old and culture-rich city than walking. There is always something of interest for everyone, e.g. spectacular temples, the gastronomic delights offered by the local food vendors, fantastic markets and shopping.

  • Day 4

Take a public air-conditioned bus to Chiang Rai. Afternoon is free to explore the small town at your own wish.

  • Day 5-23

Now it is time for you get off the tourist track and join the enthusiastic people who devotedly give their hearts to making the hill-tribe villages develop in the right direction for the benefit of all the inhabitants. You can choose to join either the “Indoor” teaching programme, or the “Outdoor” construction programme. Teaching at local schools and childcare centres, or helping to build water tanks or painting classrooms – the list of work is wide and varied. Any creative ideas to improve the projects and the villages are always warmly welcomed.
The program also includes a 3-night working homestay and elephant ride in the second week, and your weekends (Sun-Mon) are free to sightsee and explore the region.
The program includes meals on full board basis. Accommodation is basic in volunteer houses, dormitory style and separate for men and women. A police background check is required to join the programme. Please choose your programme when applying.

  • Day 24

After saying farewell to your team, you will return to hotel in Chiang Rai town.
Rest of the day at leisure.
