Tour style – Trekking/Hiking

2 days

Machu Picchu is something you have to see in your lifetime – the views of the ancient city and the mist-covered mountains are something you’ll never forget. And that whole trek up? You won’t even feel the altitude (that may be an exaggeration) – it’s totally worth it. And you even have time for a relaxing dip in steamy hot springs and a wander around the bustling streets of Cusco. It’s the whole package.
  • Day 1 Depart Cuzco – Train to Aguas Calientes

Hostel pick-up in Cuzco and transfer to Ollantaytambo for the journey to Aguas Calientes by train on the Peru Railway, with amazing views of the Andean mountains on the way. Wander through the quaint town of Aguas Calientes on your own and have a fulfilling lunch at a touristic restaurant. You then have the opportunity to go for a relaxing afternoon dip in the hot springs (optional) before returning to town for a typical dinner at a local restaurant on your own. Between 6:30-7:00pm, your guide will meet you at your hotel for a quick briefing where you will be specified the next day’s meeting time at the entrance of the Machu Picchu Archaeological Site.

  • Day 2 Machu Picchu Visit – Return to Cuzco

Make your own way to the entrance of the Machu Picchu Archaeological Site where your English Speaking guide will be waiting for you for a guided visit to the archaeological site (approximately 2 hours). After your tour, your guide will return to Aguas Calientes and you will be on your own with plenty of free time to explore the hidden corners of this ancient Inca city. Choose from the optional treks to climb Huayna Picchu (additional 30 soles at least 2 weeks in advance) or walking to the Inti Punku (Sun Gate) for panoramic views of the site. The rest of your trip will be on your own to return to Aguas Calientes by bus, have lunch, take the return train back to Ollantaytambo and mini van to Cuzco. Upon arrival in Cuzco, you will need to make your own way to your hostel.
