Tour style – Culture & History

3 days

Eschew the typical Thai getaway of beaches and clubbing and head out on this eye-opening three day journey. Discover the beauty of some of Thailand’s greatest ancient temples and palaces, explore World Heritage sites, swim in stunning waterfalls and delve into the area’s, often tragic, WWII history and its many victims. It’s a jam-packed three days in Asia that’ll put any beach holiday to shame!
  • Day 1-2 Bangkok / Ayutthaya / Kanchanaburi

After an 8.30am pick up, head north to your first destination, the summer palace of Bang Pa In. A combination of European and Thai architecture, wander its magnificent grounds and manicured gardens. Next is the World Heritage listed Ayutthaya, one of the ancient capitals of Siam, before a trip to Wat Yai Chai Mongkol, a magnificent ancient royal monastery, with an impressively large reclining Budda within its temple grounds. Don’t forget there’s a fortune teller that’s just waiting to tell you all about your future (but we can’t guarantee their accuracy). If you thought Wat Yai Chai Mongkol’s Buddha was big, check out Wat Phanan Choeng’s 19 foot statue. One of Ayutthaya’s oldest temples, there is also a small 18th century shrine which was built to honour a Chinese Princess who drowned herself because of the king’s infidelity. After lunch, head to the 13th century Wat Phra Mahathat ruins, home to one of Thailand’s most iconic images – a stone Buddha head trapped in the roots of a Bodhi tree.

  • Day 2 Erawan national Park / Kanchanaburi

Your second is just as jam-packed so get a good night’s sleep! After a delicious (and complimentary!) breakfast, it’s off to the Hellfire Pass memorial, built to honour the Allied prisoners of war and Asian conscripts that died building one of the most difficult stretches of the Burma-Thailand ‘Death Railway’. For a change of pace, it’s off to Erawan National Park to take in the spectacular sights of the Erawan waterfall, a series of seven cascades! Take your pick and go for a swim – those in the know will head to number two, three and five as they’re the best for swimming. For those who want to push the boundaries, climb to the seventh tier! Refuel with a Thai style lunch of tasty grilled chicken, sticky rice and spicy papaya salad. Next, take a ride along the historic tracks of the Death Railway, passing through magnificent scenery along the Kwai Noi river and travel over the original wooden viaduct constructed by the allied POW’s. Then, head back to Kanchanaburi to spend the evening as you wish.

  • Day 3 Bangkok

After breakfast, hop aboard a traditional Sam Lor, otherwise known as a tricycle, to tour the surrounding sights. From the WWII War museum to the Allied War cemetery, you’ll be taken away by the rich history of the area. It’s then back to Bangkok where your journey ends late afternoon.
