In honor of this month’s STA Travel Sounds artist @Jeremyloops hailing all the way from Cape Town, here are some of the best music festivals South Africa has to offer:
1.ROCKING THE DAISIES
Where? Cloof Wine Estate, Darling
When? 6 – 9 October
Why? Don your daisy chains and get ready for a MASSIVE party with an equally MASSIVE line up. Cape Town’s biggest festival, full of colorful tents, bohemian hippies, fancy dress and party spirit. Last year’s line-up included The Cat Empire, The Kooks, Milky Chance and our favorite Jeremy Loops. Peace & Love.

2.AFRIKABURN
Where? Stonehenge Farm, Tankwa Karoo National Park
When? 25 April – 1 May
Why? South Africa’s annual burn spanning 7 days. The citizens of Tankwa Town in the Karoo come together to create art, burning structures, music and performance. This year’s theme is X, as in the Roman numeral for ten. Celebrating a decade of AfrikaBurn. So get creative, feel the burn and enjoy the spectacle that is Afrikaburn. Beats your local bonfire any day.

3.PARKLIFE
Where? Marks Park, Johannesburg
When? 16 April 10:00-21:00
Why? An urban music and lifestyle festival, focusing on quality South African and international music talent. The event spans over one day with three stages and gourmet food vendors from local farmers markets. Cold beer and gourmet burger in hand, it’s the perfect day out! This year’s line-up includes Jasmine Thompson, Mi Casa, James Hersey and again Jeremy Loops (popular this year!)
4.UP THE CREEK
Where? Swellendam
When? 28 Jan – 31 Jan
Why? A beautiful river, three epic stages, 30 incredible live bands and some of the country’s most hilarious comedy acts. South Africa’s Woodstock, just wetter. This year’s line-up includes Albert Frost & Robin Auld, The Ballistics, The Vanilla, Grassy Spark and many more. Let’s just hope you’re not up the creek without a paddle!
5.SPLASHY FEN
Where? Underberg, Kwazulu-Natal
When? 24 March – 27 March
Why? South Africa’s longest running music festival (26 years old). Consisting of four stages, showcasing a diverse and original music lineup. They’re all about creating defining moments. This year’s lineup includes Adelle Nqeto, Adventure man, Asante, Bomb Squad and many more. You’ve still got time to go!
6.SYNERGY LIVE
Where? Theewaterskloof Municipality (1 hour outside of Cape Town)
When? 27 -29 Nov
Why? They promise you the time of your life. Get your arms up in the air, soak up the sun on the banks of the dam and dance the night away under the stars. A multi-stage festival with a Barcadi beach bar and a comedy stage for when you’ve had one too many Barcardis (remember laughter is the best medicine). It’s one hell of a party.
