Love is in the air, and it’s in the water too apparently. When you think of a romantic destination, your mind probably wanders to Paris or Venice. Sure, a gondola ride is a dreamy way to spend an afternoon, but what could be more romantic than a heart-shaped island?
Turns out mother nature was also a bit of a romantic…
Tavarua Island, Fiji

Found in Fiji’s famous Mamanuca Islands, an archipelago of 20 coconut-strewn islands off Fiji’s mainland, Tavarua Island is something of a heartbreaker. Not only is it home to a luxurious all-inclusive resort, but also to some of the most iconic surf breaks in the world. And what could be more romantic than surfers? Nothing, exactly.
Heart Reef, Australia

This heart-shaped coral reef is found at the tip of the Great Barrier Reef in the Whitsunday Islands. However, this particular heart is protected, so can only be seen from a seaplane or helicopter. So just make sure your bae has got some wedge.

It wasn’t until this island was found on Google Earth back in 2009 that it became a tourist destination. It’s only small, but that’s part of its charm. It also gives you the perfect excuse to un-invite that third wheel mate of yours. There’s just no room for them.

Nothing quite says “I love you” like buying someone a heart-shaped island for Valentine’s Day. (WHERE ARE YOU AND WHY DON’T YOU LOVE US AND WANT TO BUY US A HEART-SHAPED ISLAND?). 45 minutes north of Montreal in the Laurentian Mountains, this cutely named island went up for sale in 2013 with a price tag of just under £1million. It sold, but perhaps next year eh?
Heart-shaped Island, Lake Walchensee, Germany

We’ve always felt that Bavarians were the ultimate romantics (leather outfits, big horns, beer…), and then we discovered this and it just confirmed it for us. Located up in the Bavarian Alps, this heart-shaped island sits on Lake Walchensee, one of the deepest and largest lakes in Germany.
