Tour style – Learn & Volunteer

15 days

This program will enable you to contribute directly to ongoing Spinner Dolphin research here in Fiji, research which will ultimately facilitate further understanding and protection of the dolphins of the Pacific.
  • Summary

Play a vital and active role in the research and conservation of the incredible spinner dolphin amongst the white sand beaches and crystal clear waters of Fiji.
While on this project you will work directly with our conservation team as you track, monitor and study the dolphins’ behaviour.
The project is run in conjunction with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society, and research collected is shared with other organisations worldwide in order to inform marine conservation policies and management.
Our base is situated on Viti Levu, Fiji’s largest island in the unique location of Moon Reef, famous as the only place in Fiji where spinner dolphins are seen using a reef system as a critical resting habitat.
Volunteers travel to Moon Reef and perform research based tasks such as photo-ID, audio recordings, and observe dolphin behaviour on this project. The rest of their afternoon is spent checking and entering data into the computer, as well as, organizing and delivering conservation awareness workshops in local schools. Volunteers have plenty of free time to visit other villages and enjoy the natural beauty of Fiji.
